This Handmade Wooden Sensory Bin or Sensory Box is full of developmental manipulatives. Our wooden box kit is an excellent starter toy for hands-on learning and imaginative play. This is a preschooler toy or toddler toy ages 3 and up, with open-ended exploration opportunities to develop an understanding of physics, gravity, volume, shape, size, sound, how things fit together, similar and different, size relation. Add tactile manipulatives to make it a homemade surprise or seasonally appropriate toy.
Our Maker's Description:
Introducing the Explore With Me Sensory Box tool kit – an invaluable addition to hands-on learning. Oh how I love the open-endedness of a sensory bin. I love how many different skills can be practiced with a little bit of imagination and a box of "stuff". I always enjoy creating these seasonal boxes, it's a lot of fun for me to make - and how I love watching my little one’s excitement when she sits down to play – it’s like opening a present. It’s therapeutic and just plain fun.
My little explorer really enjoys playing with different nick-knacks in a tub filled with something tactile - I mean, who wouldn't? It's a great way to add texture to play while exploring a subject through excavation and discovery. Sometimes she mulls through the bin on her own and sometimes we work on it together, incorporating more conversation as she explores. Either way she is learning some very important lessons: physics, gravity, volume, shape, size, sound, how things fit together, similar and different, size relation...the list goes on.
There are so many ways to use, play, and explore with the contents in this kit. A wooden box is the window to sensorial play and imaginative excavation. Let your little one’s creativity go wild with the pouring, scooping, pinching, placing, picking, poking, and playing opportunities this learning box inspires. Add a smidgen of playful thought and create a unique and magical Explore With Me experience at each and every sit-down. This kit contains the basics and can be used over and over again – just change the ingredients and you can create a whole new learning adventure.
Some ideas for something tactile:
What’s You Get:

- 2 different wooden bowls

- 2 different wooden canisters with lids

All of my creations were made with your little one in mind. Each piece was designed to nurture child development through open-ended play. These pieces can be used to broaden your little one's understanding and knowledge of our world and were created as early educational toys. I am inspired by the teachings of Montessori; the natural beauty of Waldorf; and incorporate a myriad of other learning-through-play philosophies when I design. It makes me smile to see my made-with-love pieces being toted for use as preschool toys and in natural play settings. Thank you for helping me support little minds, bodies, and imaginations through engaging, hands-on play and discovery.

Let these open-ended wooden pieces delight and inspire your little one to play and dream with a Fairy Friend. This whimsical set includes just enough wood, fabric, and fiber to enchant the imagination and tickle your little fairy's outdoor senses. This set was created with my own, real-life, fairy-loving friend. She doodles and journals and creates and fiddles with these little pieces inside on shivery days...and we bring them with us outside on sunny ones. Find a hollow, a tree trunk, a sitting stump, a mossy green bank, leafy field, or pasture of posies to let these newfound friends dance in the light of creative thinking. Reminiscent of cloud-watching days, let your little one get entwined in the beautiful simplicity and dream-coaxing play of this lovingly packaged Fairy Friend. Each home includes enough pieces to set the stage for a daytime, playtime, mealtime, or nighttime adventure -- whatever your little one and Fairy Friend can dream of together.
Each Fairy Friend includes one of each item in a coordinating color scheme:
- A Fairy House made of felt, cotton fabric, and ribbon measuring approximately 7.5" tall and 5.5" wide.... with enough ribbon to hang from the wrist on walks through the forest or playtimes in the park.
- One Fairy Friend - each measuring approximately 2" tall painted in nontoxic, soy based paint.
- One crinkly leaf in coordinating cotton fabric, felt, and ribbon
- One felt pillow
- 10 pieces painted in the same color as your Fairy Friend and house
- 5 unpainted pieces
Let your little one delight in a dream walk; an investigation of imagination and pretend play; and a get-to-know-you with a new-found friend. You will be amazed and inspired by the conversations you will overhear and the imaginative ways your little one and Fairy Friend play and learn together.

Dinner used to be my favorite part of the day as a family. But spending dinner time as the only grown up made it super easy for me to cook whatever; order in whatever; and let my kids eat whenever. What used to be a time of family-gathering and conversation: sharing our gratitude and thoughts turned into an isolated time for me. I knew I had to bring back family dinners and I knew I needed a ritual to get me there. I created this deck: Connection, One Question at a Time. Connecting Beyond "How Was Your Day?". There are almost 50 cards. We keep them in a bag and draw one or two at dinner time. It's brought us back together. The kids love drawing a card. I love seeing my own artwork - flaws and all - on vibrant backgrounds. I love hearing them engage in questions and curiosities with one another.
The paper is about 18pt and super soft to the touch. Fronts and backs have questions so there are 90 questions in all.
I brought them out to a restaurant for dinner and it was beautiful to be able to bring this ritual with us even on a dinner date. I am SO EXCITED to share these with you! I can envision using them in a classroom for short breaks and open-ended discussion or as writing prompts.

Seasonally appropriate play activities that allow little ones to learn about changes in their world are so much fun to put together but often take a bit of time! There are many ways to expose your little explorer to the tidings of each season, but one of my favorites has always been building sensory bins. Sensory bins are the perfect pairing of learning through play with hidden lessons in volume, physics, science, experimentation, fine motor skill-building, imaginative play, counting, sorting, organizing, and categorizing.
Let Mama May I take the guesswork (and time!) out of creating these tactile learning tools with our monthly Mama May I –Explore- Sensory Bin of the Month Kits. These pass-me-down play kits are sure to engage and delight the young learners in your life. Because they are self-contained, you can keep them easily catalogued and accessible for play-and-learn time at home or you can pick one up and tote it along for some quiet fun on the go. By the end of the subscription you will have a library of tools, themes, objects, and ideas your little archeologist is sure to dig!
The first kit comes with a durable wooden box or container which can be used for all subsequent kits, to hide and seek manipulatives.
Marvelously fun, engaging, and inspiring, each additional monthly kit will include the following components:
Basic Tool (at least one new tool to add to your Sensory Bin tool kit!)
Sensory Objects that are seasonally relevant or thematic
Ways to Play activity sheet (ideas on how to further connect through play)
The Mama May I –Explore- Sensory Bin of the Month Club is the perfect milestone gift. A New kit will arrive at your loved one’s door every month for the duration of your subscription - 1, 3, 6, 9, or 12 months – such a thrill! These make a wonderful teacher, classroom, or school gift as well!
